Aged skin is

The
Affirm utilizes two
distinct laser wavelengths fired sequentially to
target
all layers of photodamaged and aged skin. Unlike competitive
technologies -which, by providing only one level of heat intensity,
fail to optimize collagen production—the Affirm redistributes laser
energy into varied levels of heat intensities to simultaneously
stimulate and remodel collagen. Since lower energy levels can be
delivered to the skin without compromising effectiveness, patient
discomfort is significantly decreased while the healing process is
rapidly accelerated.

What should I expect with an Affirm laser treatment?
The area to be
treated will be cleaned. Two passes with the laser will be done in
the treatment area to ensure overlap. Treatment takes approximately
15 - 45 minutes depending on the size of the area. Short-term side
effects can include transient redness, swelling, and tan or dusky
appearance of the skin.
How many Affirm treatments will I need?
Optimal results
are obtained with 3 - 6 treatments depending on the condition being
treated and the extent of skin damage. Treatments are spaced 3
weeks apart. After the treatment series is completed, we recommend
one maintenance treatment each year.
How quickly will I see results from the Affirm laser?
Most patients
will begin to see results after 3 treatments. Your body will
continue to generate new collagen for 6 months after the last
treatment, therefore, you may continue to see improvement for up to
6 months after you finish the treatment series. The effect on
wrinkles and scars is typically seen sooner than skin tightening
effects.
Does the treatment the Affirm treatment hurt?
We will numb the
treatment area with topical anesthetic prior to treatment with the
Affirm. The system also uses the SmartCool air cooling system to
further minimize discomfort.
How is the Affirm laser different from the Fraxel?
Both the Affirm
and the Fraxel use fractional laser technology. The Affirm uses two
distinct laser wavelengths to target all layers of the skin.
Because two lasers are used, lower energies can be used to provide
exceptional results while minimizing patient discomfort as well as
recovery time. The Fraxel uses a deep penetrating single laser
wavelength that can cause increased tissue damage. Overall, the
Fraxel is more painful, the treatments take longer, and the recovery
period is longer. In addition, there are no skin tightening
benefits with the Fraxel.
