What is
Lipotherapy?
Lipotherapy, also known as
LipoDissolve or Injection Lipolysis, is a non-surgical procedure in
which pharmaceutical compounds are injected into unwanted areas of
fat resulting in localized fat reduction. Lipotherapy works by
causing emulsification and lysis of fat cells. The fat is literally
dissolved and is then slowly reabsorbed and flushed from the body by
the liver over a period of several weeks.
What is being injected?
We use a
pharmaceutical compound with phosphatidylcholine (PPC) and sodium
deoxycholate (DC) as its main active ingredients. The injections are
spaced 1.5 cm apart and are placed into the subcutaneous fat
layer using a 1/2" small bore needle. The compound is formulated at an FDA approved compounding
pharmacy under strict guidelines and quality control. PPC is derived
from soy, is natural to the body, and is a component of the
membranes of all cells. PPC has been used for many years in Europe
to dissolve fat emboli in the blood. Since 1996, PPC/DC has been
used in cosmetic procedures for spot fat reduction. More than
100,000
aesthetic treatments have been performed in South America, Europe
and the U.S..
What areas can be treated?
Lipotherapy targets unsightly
localized fat in the abdomen, upper arms, back, love handles,
thighs, and buttocks. Both men and women
respond to Lipotherapy.
How many treatments are needed?
Usually, most patients reach
their goal in 2 - 4 treatments. Depending on the size of the area to be
treated and how well your body responds to the treatments, there is
a chance that you may require more. The treatments are spaced 6
weeks apart.
When can I expect to see results?
Initial results usually become
apparent around 6 weeks after the initial treatment. The full effect
accumulates over time with each additional treatment.
Is Lipotherapy painful?
There may be some minor
localized discomfort during the treatment which we can help
alleviate with the application of a topical anesthetic. After the
treatment, you will experience a minor burning sensation as the
compounds begin to work. Swelling and inflammation will occur in the
treatment area which can result in soreness for a few days.
The swelling can last up to 2 -3 weeks. Tylenol is usually sufficient to
relieve any discomfort.
What are the side effects?
You can expect to experience a
mild burning sensation localized to the treatment site for a short
period of time. Bruising and soreness of the treatment area may last
up to a week. As an inflammatory response is part of the treatment,
swelling of the treated area is expected and may last up to 2 - 3 weeks.
Is the procedure permanent?
Lipotherapy will dissolve fat
cells permanently in the treated area. While new fat cells will not
be formed in the area, remaining fat cells can enlarge if proper
diet and exercise are not followed.
Who is a good candidate for Lipotherapy?
Lipotherapy works best in
healthy people who are within 25 pounds of their ideal body weight. Your Body Mass Index (BMI) should not exceed 30. Lipotherapy is for
spot fat reduction it is not intended for weight loss. Ideal
candidates are people who exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet
but cannot lose localized fat deposits in certain body areas.

the age of 18. People with the following conditions are not
